After taking some time off following their Mercury award win, The xx are back with a new album, Coexist. Apart from a few fuzzy fan-made recordings at their intimate London gigs last month, this is the first thing we've heard of the album. It's official (so doesn't sound like it was recorded on a calculator) and it's called Angels.
In their fan mailout, they said: "We've been playing this song live recently, so it feels good to share with you the version we've been working on for so long. We hope you like it. xx The xx"
We wonder if any of them ever sign off a text with anything other than two kisses?
Anyway, the three-piece band, who can coun t Lindsay Lohan Lily Allen, Beyonce and Jay Z among their celebrity fans are currently on tour in Australia.
They famously did a remix of Florence and the Machine's You've Got The Love, and the band's whizzkid percussionist and producer Jamie Smith has also provided the instrumentals for Drake and Rihanna's Take Care, and remixed Adele. They've also been sampled by Rihanna covered by Shakira, and their songs have pretty much soundtracked every gritty advert on TV since 2010.
