Soap news: Eastenders to celebrate Olympics with live birth episode

Soap news: Eastenders to celebrate Olympics with live birth episode

As if pretending to give birth in front of a load of cameras isn't enough, but Eastenders actress Danielle Harold has been given an even more incredible acting challenge – 'pretend to give birth… and do it live in front of millions of people'. Amazing!

The live episode of the soap will go out next Monday 23 July at 8pm and 9pm – during what will be Enders' special Olympics episodes. And not only will Danielle's character Lola go into labour, but her granddad Billy (Perry Fenwick) will be busy running with the Olympics torch when it happens.

A source explained to The Mirror, "Everyone thinks t he live show is all about Billy with the torch, but arguably Lola will steal the show when she gives birth in the live segment.

"No-one has tried anything like this on EastEnders live before so it is a real challenge to get the emotion of the situation right. It will be the toughest thing Danielle has done in her acting career."

Tough is right – we'd be bricking it if we were her. So, much respect goes out to Danielle who will be working hard to make the episode a success.

There has only been one other live birth in soap history – and that was when Coronation Street's Fiz (played by Jennie McAlpine) had baby Hope during the show's live 50th anniversary episode in 2010.

So, the big question is… can Eastenders do labour and contractions as convincingly as Corrie? We reckon so – and we will be tuning in on Monday to find out. So do join us heatworlders and share your thoughts with us on Twitter.
